Interest & Inclination:-

One thing I have learned is that if someone finds no interest in a subject, no value to themselves in a way of working, perhaps is discouraged to use initiative or 'afraid' of undue criticism for imperfect results: no amount of courses, procedure manuals or pressing will achieve a satisfactory outcome.

Humans under duress WILL make 'the system' go wrong.

On the other hand - create a self-interest, add some coaxing and as much goodwill as can be found - and even an absolute novice will often show they can beat a professional.
